The Raising of the Funds

So, it's that time! Pixel Shift is in its infancy, obviously, and we're looking for ways to fill our coffers! There are some obvious solutions:
  • Bake Sale!
  • Kissing Booth!
  • Haunted House!
  • Establishing Mafia ties!
And then there are more creative ones, which is where all of you come in. To get the ball rolling, I'll throw out a few:
  • A comic compilation - featuring an anthology of sequential art from Cornish students. Contributors would receive a free copy, but otherwise it'd be pro bono.
  • DVD sales - featuring existing motion department work, or a new movie (or movies) created by the club.
  • Clever, trendy t-shirts, canvas bags etc. (Think Threadless.) We could have a screen printing party. :D
Yeah, that's what I've got.

Sound Classes

Tiffany mentioned this in Narrative Design, and I thought I'd throw this out there for club members that aren't in the class.

The Vera Project offers a beginner Sound Engineer Training class for the low, low price of $15. (As well as silk screening classes and breakdancing, if you're into either of those...)

DBR - Lecture / Demonstration

Finally, I got a chance to visit music department chair and we had a small chat about our club. We will have some projects in the future. Here is something she suggests we should go see:

Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR): One Loss Plus
http://www.themoore.com/artists/?artist=558

Friday, October 12, 11am to noon, CCA Poncho Concert Hall
How does a DJ compose? What should a laptopist's score look like? How would a composer organize improvisational contributions of musicians? NYC-based composer, performer, violinist and band-leader DBR demostrates his compositional methods and collaborative process through his Event Piece technique, and discusses and performs excerpts of his recent work, One Loss Plus. Open to all CCA students. Please email lizy@the paramount.com or 206.467.5510 (ext.1171) for more information or reservation.

Friday, October 12, 2007, The Moore Theatre, 8pm
A work written for violin, piano, electronics and video, One Loss Plus portrays and confronts feelings of loss, isolation, and optimism through recorded interviews and narratives of those who have lost and gained from their experiences. DBR's meditative and melodious score reflects the re-telling of these personal stories as he traverses the stage and interacts with the video installation by Janet Wong.
